Viscous characteristic frequency

The viscous characteristic frequency f_v is frequential intersection of the asymptotic behviors for the visco-inertial flow in the pores. Below f_v, the viscous forces are predominant compared to inertial ones and the flow regime is dissipative. Beyond f_v, the inertial forces are predominant compared to the viscous ones.

The expression of the viscous characteristic frequency is:

fv=sigma*phi/(2*pi*alpha_infty*rho_0) (1)

where sigma is the static air flow resistivity of the material, phi its open porosity, alpha_infty its tortuosity (the high frequency limit strictly speaking) and rho_0 the density at rest of the air.
